In 1930, Chris-Craft was recognized as world's largest builder of highly-varnished mahogany constructed power boats. In January of 1930 the Smiths introduced their most ambitious offerings to date, twenty-four models of boats, their largest production craft yet.
It was a clear signal to both consumers and the marine industry that Chris-Craft was not affected by widespread rumors of impending disaster as a result of the crumbling American economy.
The "Triple Cockpit Runabout" measured 20' LOA and featured an upswept "Buggatti-style" windshield. It was powered by a single-screw gasoline engine.
Now considered a "Classic Yacht," these boats are frequently displayed at the various antique yacht shows and rendezvous held around the U.S. These boats were raced extensively in the 1930's Gold Cup power boat racing series.
