Wow! The America's Cup racing in San Francisco has us excited, enthralled and enthusiastic!!
The racing is close, despite Emirates Team New Zealand's strong lead as of today. Oracle Team USA has bounce back from the brink, winning 3 races, so far.
Thank goodness there's still a fighting spirit within the OTUSA crew (onboard and shoreside.)
Lead changes and the accompanying "passes" and crossing encounters definitely add to the drama. Now that OTUSA has found its upwind speed, this is a REAL contest. "Watching grass grow" no longer applies!
The TV graphics are AWESOME! Thanks, Stan Honey and the tech team at America's Cup -- you really came thru to make the live broadcasts very understandable for both novices and experienced sailors alike.
And, what can we say about boat speeds? In relative terms, these catamaran speedsters are like NASCAR racers doing 150 MPH. And, NASCAR doesn't have to contend with steep wave action and wind gusts that accelerate the boats in an instant. We're in awe of achieving 50+ MPH on a routine basis!
So far, as you can probably tell, we believe that (finally) the 34th America's Cup has lived up to its pre-racing hype. The fastest boats, the best sailors, the most entertainment on the water. The AC-34 has it all!
We will be glued to our TV for the rest of the show. May the best team win (without any breakdowns or further injuries.)
Fair winds!
